A rewarding career in canine therapy
Over nineteen years ago I began the transition from human physiotherapist to canine physiotherapist. I had always had a huge love for dogs and was disappointed to discover they didn't have access to the same quality rehabilitation services as we as humans do. I became determined to change that.
I went on to do my Masters in Animal Physiotherapy, open my own canine rehabilitation clinic, and designed and built the first underwater treadmill in Australia. I now get to help others make the transition into the industry that has had such a positive impact on my life.
There's something so immensely satisfying to see a dog's life extended, to witness a dog walk again after being told they couldn't, and to have a dog recover fully from injury or surgery knowing it's because of the therapy I have provided. I feel so fortunate to experience this every single day and now I want you to experience this feeling too.

Reasons why I changed my career to canine therapy
Working in the industry as a canine therapist has been the best decision of my life and here are just a few of the reasons why:
To provide the same level of quality rehabilitation therapies to canines as we have access to as humans
Be part of an ever growing and changing industry at the forefront of new research, results and therapies
Have a positive impact on extending the quality and length of time dogs and their owners get to spend together
There's nothing better than seeing the look on a dog's face when you help relieve their discomfort through your treatment.

The transition to online education courses
Prior to the pandemic we were already providing the majority of the theory and some of the practical portion of our courses via online learning platforms to accommodate our international students.
With the arrival and ongoing effects of Covid we dedicated our resources to finding innovative ways to enable our students to be able to achieve the depth of knowledge and experience they need to achieve the standard required to become certified.
Now we are able to offer courses completely online where the practical hands-on components are conducted virtually under the supervision and guidance of the instructor.
We remain committed to transforming with the times to ensure that dogs the world over don't miss out on the opportunity to receive the quality care they deserve from Certified Canine Therapists.

But how can you teach something like this online?
We get asked this all the time and over the past two years we have dedicated our resources to ensuring students who study online with us get the same quality of education and experience they need to become confident and competent Canine Therapists.
The same amount of supervised hands-on practical time is provided as the in-person workshop experience.
We don't pass everyone. Students need to achieve strict standards and stringent testing methods to become certified.
Being able to correctly evaluate a canine is 90% theory and 10% practical and hence our courses are extremely in depth.
Our innovative testing methods ensure more 1:1 evaluation time is provided for our online only students.

How Roonie changed my life
In 2003 I had not long opened my canine rehabilitation clinic when my husband and I were given the opportunity to take in a little Dachshund called Roonie. Roonie had recently had spinal surgery and her owners had been told she would never walk again. Consequently, she was unable to toilet herself or move around and her parents had been advised the best thing to do was to euthanise her.
It took a lot of hard work, lost sleep, and lots of washing, but after 5 months of intense rehabilitation, Roonie was able to walk again! She went on to live another six years as a valued part of our family and as a daily reminder that not only can we rehabilitate dogs but that what we can also save lives.
